چکیده

The aim of this paper is to describe the evolution of GIS applications development process, based on the SDKs transformations, especially by considering the ESRI ArcGIS development platform. On the one hand, this study relies on our previous experience in GIS software engineering; on the other hand, it reflects the features and particularities of the projects we conducted within the bachelor and master’s theses of our students. Further comments are being made, regarding the transformation of traditional desktop applications to gain contextual recommendation functionalities as well as their reengineering towards mobility. We furthermore intend to determine whether the integration of Virtual and Mixed Reality in this typology of applications is feasible and to anticipate the usefulness for communities of users grouped either by their geographical location or by their common interests.
